Museum of History of the Belarusian Cinema

Museum of history of the Belarusian cinema — one of the youngest in Belarus though it has almost thirty-year background. 

It is based at the initiative of the Belarusian cinematographers in Minsk in 1976 as departmental "Belarusfilm" at a film studio for collecting and preservation of materials about a national cinema, promoting its achievements. From 1982 till 1988 it was located in the Republican House of cinema (a Simeon and Alyona catholic church) the Union of cinematographers of BSSR, carrying out generally archival function.

It is opened for regular visit at the beginning of 2002 in specially reconstructed (1994 — 1998) according to the decision of Council of ministers of Republic of Belarus the three-storyed building – a monument of architecture of the first half of the XX century. Since January 2005 the museum is a branch of "State Museum of History of Theatrical and Musical Culture of Republic of Belarus" institution.

Primary activities: collecting, systematizing and the description of documents and materials connested with the history of the Belarusian cinema and film culture as a whole; the organization of the share, thematic and personal exhibitions connected with a cinema, the Belarusian fine arts as a whole; the systematized display of domestic and foreign film classics.
